youtube
I had a lot of real fun making my YouTube video which inevitably just became me discussing myself. For a person who hates the sound of his own voice I found the editing process took a significantly longer time than I had first anticipated, however using Microsoft Clipchamp I was able to do it with relative ease. For the most part I just kept the raw footage as I find that most YouTube videos and youtubers in general try to keep this supposed amateur aesthetic for as long as possible as it creates relatability to them as well as humanising them with obvious straight cuts being left in when things have obviously been cut out.
I also found that messing about with different camera angles
and lighting lead to more creativity. My shooting location would only be
accessible on sunnier days as it doesn’t get a lot of light from my lights as
the walls and ceiling are dark, so I had to wait for the most opportune moment.
Messing about with different ways of recording was also fun, most of it was
done directly from my headset but overs done either directly from my phone or
the separate desk mic I have downstairs as I used this time to just have a mess
about with different pieces of equipment.
For me the worst part was script writing, as for the most
part, what I wanted to say was either way to formal and structured to really
aid the realism which I intended to come across in the video. Or it just didn’t
seem like I was trying to have that conversational tone with the viewer, and
more was sounding like a dictator to them. I also have under appreciated the
actual amount of time and effort that goes into that side of it, for the most
part I had to delete several clips before I got ones which where passible as
they either didn’t sound right in my head, I got tempted to look at the word
document on the screen next to me.
The thumbnail and the ending cards where the easiest part of the whole thing, with YouTube adding me every step of the way with it. I like the fact that YouTube before you upload almost gives you a step-by-step list for what you should be aiming to incorporate within your videos which, made my overall experience with YouTube overall a far better experience than all the over platforms put together.
