transmedia storytelling : Nosferatu

Image
So, I have Odeon limitless for a reason, because I truly love the cinematic experience, so when I heard that they had remade Nosferatu it was a no brainer to go and what a first cinema trip of the year it turned out to be. Not only was the film truly breath taking with its use of landscapes shots to develop this world that was created but was a good excuse to get my mates together before they went back to university. The film overall is a perfect homage to the original and keeps the rawness of the characters like that of the source material. The initial trailer introduces us to the lead female character, Ellen Hutter, and the experience she’s having with Nosferatu. The trailer shows key examples of the dread, fear and hopelessness the character develops when he is with her, swapping from high key to natural lighting when she is amongst friends to almost swapping back to 1922, by swapping to a more film noir style as the colour and light has almost been absorbed by the monster. ...

youtube

I had a lot of real fun making my YouTube video which inevitably just became me discussing myself. For a person who hates the sound of his own voice I found the editing process took a significantly longer time than I had first anticipated, however using Microsoft Clipchamp I was able to do it with relative ease. For the most part I just kept the raw footage as I find that most YouTube videos and youtubers in general try to keep this supposed amateur aesthetic for as long as possible as it creates relatability to them as well as humanising them with obvious straight cuts being left in when things have obviously been cut out. I also found that messing about with different camera angles and lighting lead to more creativity. My shooting location would only be accessible on sunnier days as it doesn’t get a lot of light from my lights as the walls and ceiling are dark, so I had to wait for the most opportune moment. Messing about with different ways of recording was also fun, most of it wa...

Online Photos

The picture I uploaded was a photo I got at the sum 41 concert in October of this year. I found it super simple to upload onto x. I think the sum 41 concert is an interesting event as they are a relatively unheard band excluding a few songs and if you’re not in the rock scene you probably won’t know who they are. It was also my first proper mosh pit experience, so getting a still shot was relatively difficult as I was getting pushed about a bit the entire time. I found it more interesting to see the difference in every concert I go to with us being at Leeds arena the atmosphere was different to that of local venues where it feels a bit more intermit. Another reason why this image and this concert I would consider newsworthy is that it is, supposedly, going to be their last ever concert after doing tours for the last two decades. This means this will be one of the last times your able to get a shot of them all together and for a life long fine made this concert among the best I’ve eve...

X or Twitter

Image
I found X particularly easy to the use. I was able to easily pin items of interest to my homepage like Huddersfield university and sports Journalism, because I’ve done this, I can keep a closer eye on my interests than what I usually do. The ability to go directly to certain users from the homepage just overall, made it a lot simpler and easier to use. The fact I’m able to do this in a relatively fast pace just made my user experience far better. In comparison to Facebook the account making process was significantly easier takin mere minutes as it only required a valid email, and didn’t ban me after I made the account like Facebook did. X’s main USP being the ability to directly @ people has allowed me to directly address my friends in the past and has allowed for far faster conversations amongst us in a group or even having secondary chats just amongst a few of us. This feature in my opinion just creates a far more friendly user experience, however I could maybe see drawbacks ...

Instagram live

Image
Instagram live is, I would say the simplest live streaming service I have personally used as its easy to access and allows for futures that can be done easier on their rather than how they are done on twitch or YouTube. The ability to be able to change orientation with the click of a button allows for your stream to be more unique and up to your personal taste. However, I would say that its lack of flexibility when you start your stream is a downside, the fact your locked in the orientation you start in, it means it lacks the free flow ability that I desire. Twitch allows for easy to change cameras and orientation at ease without it effecting the stream. Instagram Lives shareability is a positive that you can personally choose who will be able to view who sees your stream. For me, it being my first time using the software, I went live just to myself to get a feel for it, this allowed me to become more comfortable with the software rather than throwing myself straight into the d...

pocket

Image
Pocket has a simplistic design which I found engaging and easy to use, and allowed for an overall more enjoyable user experience for myself when I was on the app. The ability to share information to the app and reopen websites without there over population of ads to distract me from the main source material, this has allowed for a far better user experience as, at least for me, I have a shorter attention span so the ability for it to show up with a more simplistic feel and for it all to be organised as if I was reading it off of word, it feels like a far better experience than if I was just reading it online, were I could go off on a goose chase and end up in a completely different website or article than what I stated on. They allow for easy shareability and organisation of my various media sources and websites rather than the unorganised chaos which can be said for my usually filling system with my word documents. Having the ability to have my sources at my fingertips and separ...

First Week

So far, my university experience has been a stressful yet for fulling experience, my general thoughts on my first week were positive despite having to wake up at 5 in the morning to get the train each day, once at university I realised I had made a good choice with what I’m going to do for the next 3 years of my life. Despite meeting people fresher’s week was lack lustre as I could enjoy going out because I had to come home and paint and renovate my room to stop my mother from doing it all by herself. I found the university relatively easy to figure out were I’m going and what I’m doing each day, as its concise and has made my experience so much more relaxing as I know what I’m doing, everyone in and out of classes seems happy and friendly enough, completely different to the regular cliental of Bradford which people give an uneasy presence on a good day. The teacher all seems like they truly care about are education and I hope, will help me every step of the way with my universit...
